VW Type 3 Wagon

If I ever have the opportunity (and I hope I do) to travel down the air cooled VW path, my weapon of choice would definitely be a Type 3 wagon. I just love the shape, ever since I first saw one back in highschool with deep black paintwork and brightly contrasting chrome, I’ll never forget it. But enough reminiscing, there’s an interesting story about the wagon in this feature. From what I can gather, apparently it started it’s life as an Australian Delivered model which was imported at some point during it’s lifespan over to the United Kingdom. The story picks up in the present day with the wagon being restored with the utmost detail to show-standards, before being sold to a lucky buyer back in, you guessed it, Australia.

Thai Kombi Restoration

Have you heard the one about the Thai guy who makes his own replacement metal panels for air-cooled VW’s? Well you have now! This build has been doing the rounds for a while, I always see it pop up on forums within various “best builds” style threads, and for good reason. The man with all the skill is Pat, a metal magician from Thailand who works in a very humble shop, bringing classic VW’s back to life, one hand-formed piece of metal at a time. Come and see for yourself how he restores his brothers very rusty 67 split-window Kombi ute, you won’t believe your eyes.

VW Kombi + Trailer

More crazy contraptions from our Scandinavian friends. This time it’s some Finns who have created a VW Kombi trailer made from an unused cab, complete with airbags, tubs, and some big American Racing hoops. If that isn’t enough, it actually gets towed around by a matching full-size Kombi.

Thanks to Jani-Matti for submitting this one.

1972 Porsche 911

Did you like the classic 911 sitting pretty in the last garage post I made about a month ago? If you did, then you’ll be pleased to know it gets tracked regularly and has a build thread of it’s own. A tonne of hard work took place to make it the gorgeous wide-body RSR clone that it is today, so be sure to check out the link at the bottom of the post for the full run-down.

The KidVRod

What happens when you’re a 4 year old kid with a father who loves aircooled VW’s and knows how to weld? Well, you get your very own scaled down version of a VRod, of course!

Possibly the coolest dad in the world, Kristian from Finland transforms a regular Beetle shell into the baddest fully functioning kid-car going around for his lucky son.

Race Taxi 993 Turbo Kombi

Mental Kombi’s with engine swaps are not a new thing, there seems to be heaps of them on the internet. There must be something about making a brick shaped bus go ridiculously fast that get’s peoples creative juices flowing.

Here’s a neat one from Race Taxi powered by a Porsche 993 biturbo engine, with a carbon fiber roof of course.
